This event is an opportunity for Black women to come and feel seen and supported amongst others with similar experiences in science. His most significant recent contributions are a liquid biopsy test that can be used to diagnose brain tumours (Nature Medicine), which may help patients avoid high-risk brain surgery; and the first ever pan-molecular characterisation of intracranial meningiomas (Nature).

From meeting Paula for the first time at a wedding event in March, it was quite clear that we wouldn’t want anybody else to host our ceremony on our special day. By being there every step of the way, both virtually and in person, Paula really helped me and my (now) husband to really enjoy planning our wedding ceremony.If that wasn’t enough, his passion as our podcast co-host shines through as he raises awareness and empowers others to share their stories. Our Professional Excellence Awards recognise and celebrate the outstanding healthcare professionals that make a difference every day to the lives of people with a brain tumour. Unfortunately, Heather was unable to join us on the night, but we presented her with the award at the launch event for our new strategy – Living Longer and Better: 2023-30. Through their tireless fundraising, awareness-raising and brilliant support, Underbelly are changing our community’s lives for the better.

Embracing the role of celebrant fully, she welcomes all thoughts outside of the box regarding the content, format, or style of your day. Will wanted to take on a challenge to raise money to help others diagnosed with a brain tumour and, as a rugby fan, set himself the goal of walking 70m, the width of a rugby pitch – a monumental distance for Will. Perfect Mum Verse: It takes a certain someone to be a perfect Mum; Someone who will stand by you, no matter what you've done; Someone who can understand and wipe away the tears; Someone who is there for you, throughout the passing years. As part of the celebration, the event will feature interactive games, networking sessions and informative displays.

Their can-do attitude has been inspirational and their enthusiasm for all we do has been nothing short of extraordinary. Laura was diagnosed with a glioblastoma, the most aggressive form of brain tumour, in 2018 and was given a prognosis of just one year. Hal Cruttenden, our host for the evening, kicked off Celebrating You by announcing the recipient of our Outstanding Contribution Award – Sarah Lindsell. Last night was Celebrating You 2023, our third community awards ceremony and our first in-person event since 2018!
