About this deal

Timings around the effects of climate change have been truncated, as has the speed of technical advances, so it takes a while to get used to what is supposed to be happening. There’s humour although this rightly diminishes as danger levels rise, there’s plenty of tension, excitement accompanied by a building menace and peril. Chilling, as well as the location and weather for its setting, is the future portrayed by climate change in this tale of murder, political betrayal, and family estrangement. I love the attention to detail in things such as possible advances between 2022/23 and the future and he makes it feel plausible. There are some good plot twists that keep you hooked, the pace is fast and there are some Hollywood action movie worthy scenes which give a dystopian feel.

Instead he makes a massive comment on it, one which I - and I hope many others - have worried about, and will continue to argue. So to what to make of a story that’s such a mix of parts, some that drew me in and others that pushed me away? He has received a death sentence of his own, and has something personal he has to get out of the way before he departs this earth for good.An immensely satisfying and enjoyable read and it will stay with me for a long time to come, I’m sure.

Brodie is a detective sent to investigate the body of a journalist found frozen in the snow in Scotland . After a slightly rocky introduction, Brodie finds that he gets on quite well with police pathologist Dr Sita Roy, and both are relieved when their eVTOL (electric helicopter) sets them down safely during an ice storm, in the blacked-out village of Kinlochleven.I’m not sure it needed the family backstory (it jumps back in time to tell the story of his wife’s suicide) but it does come together in an exciting climax and satisfying ending. He also hopes to reconcile with his estranged daughter and explain a misunderstanding that has caused her hatred. The dead man is investigative reporter, George Younger who has been missing for three months after going missing on a supposed walking holiday.

Interspersed throughout Brodie’s narrative are flashbacks to 2023, when he first met Addie’s mother, gradually revealing what has weighed so heavily on Brodie’s conscience for a decade. The three things I mentioned above were total surprises for me because I didn’t know this before I started reading and this added to my reading pleasure. Das Buch (englische Ausgabe) ist gut zu lesen, kann aber meiner Einschätzung nach nicht mit den Büchern der Enzo Files oder der China Thriller mithalten. Suffice it to say that this is food for thought, and if you care about the future of the world, this book is essential reading, because it is a stark reminder of what ought to be being considered. No torn-clothed mothers, dead-eyed and directionless, dragging behind them their emaciated children. But, the author, having completed his creation, then takes our hands, so we can run together through his raging hurricane of how’s, why’s, when’s and what’s, coming out exhausted but the better for it. I don't remember Peter May previously setting any of his novels in the future, but correct me if I am wrong. Sita Roy, find themselves the sole guests at the inappropriately named International Hotel, where Younger's body has been kept refrigerated in a cake cabinet. Now, in “A Winter Grave,” he gives readers a glimpse into life in 2053 – the good and the bad, the different and the same.

Hailstorms flew out of the darkness like sparks, deflecting off the windscreen… He could barely see the road ahead of him, hail blowing around and drifting like snow on the recently cleared tarmac.Pathologist Dr Sita Roy joined Cameron on their journey, arriving in the middle of a ferocious ice storm. Add to this a central character prepared to give his all in one last fight and you have a totally gripping crime thriller that is chilling in more ways than one. Venturing out into a particularly violent storm, Brodie witnesses the extreme weather conditions for himself.
