About this deal

Deleted Scenes (SD, 50 min.) – Also ported over from the 2003 release are a collection of deleted scenes, which also include outtakes and bloopers in the mix. The quality of the footage is pretty poor at times, but still fun to watch. Included on this first disc are deleted scenes for 'Saga of a Star World' (35 min.) and 'Lost Planet of the Gods' (15 min.). Remembering 'Battlestar Galactica' (SD, 45 min.) – Ported over from the 2003 DVD release, this entertaining retrospective on the show includes comments from Glen A. Larson and members of the cast, including Richard Hatch, Dirk Benedict, and Hebert Jefferson, Jr. Inside Battlestar Galactica: Working with the Daggit (480i; 5:11): The cast and many of the series directors discuss working with the cimp inside the Daggit suit. In their infinite wisdom, the folks over at Universal believe that no one but loyal fans and purists would ever want to see 'Battlestar Galactica' is its original full frame format (which, by the way, are available in the larger, more expensive Definitive Collection should you wish to splurge for that version), so as part of this remastering of the series, they've created a brand-new 1.78:1 widescreen version of each episode. Despite losing information at the top and bottom of each scene, the widescreen episodes are actually pretty well framed and I was surprised at how good most (but not all) of the series works in the new format. English SDH, French, Dutch, Italian, Spanish (Castilian), Spanish (Latin), Danish, Finnish, Norwegian, Japanese, Brazilian, Portuguese (Full Frame Episodes)

Blu-ray Review - Battlestar Galactica: The Definitive Blu-ray Review - Battlestar Galactica: The Definitive

Video: 1.85:1; Audio: English 5.1 DTS-HD MA, Japanese, French, Italian, German, Castilian Spanish, Portuguese, and Latin Spanish 2.0 DTS; Subtitles: Japanese, English, French, Italian, German, Castilian Spanish, Portuguese, Latin Spanish, Czech, Danisk, Dutch, Finnish, Greek, Hungarian, Korean, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Swedish, Thai, Tiurkish, and Simplified Chinese ORIGINAL TV SERIES & GALACTICA 1980: Extended Episode: 'A Disquiet Follows My Soul' (HD, Disc 1) – The unrated extended version of this episode. Audio Commentary: 'Crossroads: Parts 1 & 2' (Disc 5) – The two-part season finale commentary with Ronald D. Moore.

Sizzle Reel (SD, Disc 5, 4 minutes) – Basically just a preview for the first episode of the second half of Season 2. As the title suggest, actually all three parts plus an additional thirty minutes of footage to really flesh out the finale - trust me you haven't seen the finale until you've seen this. While there's still plenty of 'cheese' to be found in the episodes on this release, I was amazed at how well some of them hold up, and how good some of the acting was – particularly on the original first season. Despite its age and flaws, I can't imagine any fan of the show who wouldn't want to have this set in their collection.

A spoof type featurette hosted by composer Bear McCreary, of all the great stuff on show, this has to be the worst. In terms of Blu-ray extras, most (but not all) of disc-based from Universal’s previous DVD release has carried over here. Missing from the original DVD is the magazine size booklet, the VFX overview with John Dykstra, and the Sci-Fi channel special. Also absent (unsurprisingly) from the German Blu-ray release are the German language Super-8 cuts and trailers, and the lawyer-killing Battlestar discussion panel footage from the 2003 25th anniversary convention. Had Universal wanted to make this set truly definitive, they would have included at least the new scenes shot with body doubles and awkward voiceovers done for the telemovie version of the standalone episodes meant for UHF syndication. The most notable of which, Experiment in Terra, had an entirely new intro shot as detailed here. Audio Commentary: 'Razor: Extended Version' – Commentary with Ronald D. Moore and writer Michael Taylor. On the theatrical version of the Battlestar Galactica pilot, this is the same disc released in 2012, cropped to 1.85:1, and compressed using the VC-1 codec. The image here is much softer than on the broadcast versions, possibly due to being from a different source and/or due to some digital manipulation such as edge enhancement and scrubbing, with waxy flesh tones and textures. Starring: Lorne Greene , Dirk Benedict , Herbert Jefferson Jr. , Kent McCord , Barry Van Dyke , John ColicosAudio Commentary: 'Lay Down Your Burdens: Parts 1 & 2' (Disc 5) – Commentary for the two-part season finale with Ronald D. Moore. Text based The Oracle plus an additional Battlestar Blips, which is again text based trivia information and facts.
